What is the Best Way to Choose the Right Fragrance for Me?

Although our prices are better than department stores, one of the best ways is to visit a store and try a few samples to see how the fragrance develops on your skin. We recommend trying no more than two samples (one on each wrist).

A great option online is to visit the Perfume Society website and use their Virtual Fragrance Advisor. You answer three questions and it makes recommendations based on your answers.

Where are the Best Places to Apply a Fragrance on My Body?

First, use a moisturizer beforehand so the fragrance can bond better to your skin. Individuals with lighter skin tend to have drier skin. Coco Chanel advised women to “apply perfume where you want to be kissed” (we agree), but placing a fragrance on “pulse points” is best. These are the areas of your body where blood circulation is close to the skin like the inside of your wrists and elbows, base of your throat, behind your knees and below (not behind) your ear lobes. Other popular areas are the breasts, navel and the small of your back. Dab or spray the areas rather than rubbing in the perfume to allow the fragrance to release over time.

How Long Will a Fragrance Last Throughout the Day?

Fragrances are based on the percentage of pure fragrance oil, which determines lasting power.

Perfume: 15-30% perfume oil, is the most potent and you may only need to apply it once in the morning and reapply it once more throughout the day.
Eau de Parfum: 8-15% perfume oil, allows you to apply a fragrance for daytime use, then switch to another fragrance in the evening.
Eau de Toilette: 4-8% perfume oil, is a light scent that diminishes in a couple of hours and it can be applied multiple times throughout the day.

How Should I Store My Fragrances?

You want to keep your fragrances away from sunlight and in a cool area. A bathroom is not recommended. Storing your fragrances in a cabinet or box in your bedroom is ideal.

How Long Will a Bottle of Fragrance Last?

It depends on the fragrance strength and whether it is an opened bottle or a spray. Generally, a fragrance will last six to 18 months if stored properly. All fragrances deteriorate over time with citrus-based perfumes having the shortest life and floral-based ones having the longest life.

What is the Best Way to Travel with a Fragrance?

If you’re traveling by car or vehicle it is best to store it inside the vehicle rather than the trunk or area that is not temperature controlled. If you are traveling by plane store it in your carry-on (be aware of TSA rules) rather than your checked bags, because the air pressure changes can cause your fragrance bottle to leak.

How Much Fragrance Should I Apply?

The strength between fragrances is wide, but a good general rule is that someone should be able to detect the fragrance you are wearing at arms length. The intention is to attract someone just enough that they want to draw closer to you.

How Do I Know if My Fragrance Has Gone Bad?

Let your nose and eyes be the judge. If the scent smells off, it looks cloudy or darker then it’s best to replace it.

How Do I Spray a Fragrance on Myself?

Hold the fragrance about 10 inches away. Some perfume manufacturers recommend spraying your hair rather than your skin if you want the fragrance to last longer. Others suggest spraying the fragrance in the air and walking through it for the proper application.

What is a Tester?

Testers are discounted fragrances that are intended for sampling at department stores. They often do not include a box or a cap. Each tester is a 100% authentic product and they are a great value for replacing the same fragrance at a lower cost. They would not be a good choice as a gift.

My New Perfume Will Not Spray. Is the Nozzle Broken?

In most cases the tube connected to the nozzle simply needs to be primed (filled with fragrance) to spray.

Follow these three simple steps:
1. Press your index finger firmly against the spray nozzle.
2. Use the index finger of your other hand and pump the sprayer 10-15 times.
3. Remove your index finger from the spray nozzle and pump the sprayer another 10-15 times (or until the nozzle sprays the fragrance).

If the nozzle still does not spray, wait 5-10 minutes to allow the bottle to settle, then try steps 1-3 again.

If the nozzle still does not spray, please use the Contact Us page and include the best phone number to reach you.

Are Your Fragrances Authentic Brands?

All of the products on our website are genuine products from the manufacturer. We do not carry any imitation products.

Why Do Fragrances Smell Different From Person to Person?

Each person’s skin has their own unique body chemistry which is a mixture of water, fatty acids, proteins, salts and sugars. As a fragrance is worn over time it is influenced by the person’s unique chemistry. The dryness of your skin and body temperature can also influence a fragrance.

Can I Wear a Fragrance Intended for Men Even Though I am a Woman?

Absolutely. Some of the lighter men’s fragrances can work exceptionally well as a perfume. Experiment, but we highly recommend trying a sample and wearing it for the day before making a purchase.
